Man City to negotiate contract extension after De Bruyne recovers from hamstring injury

Last season Manchester City unprecedentedly won the first Champions League in the team’s history, and also completed the Premier League and FA Cup, of which De Bruyne is the key player for such success. According to reports, De Bruyne’s contract is currently set to run until 2025, and because of the injuries suffered by the player in the new season, City have held off on renewing De Bruyne’s contract, and they will start negotiations after the player’s injuries have healed.

City have reportedly delayed talks with De Bruyne over a new contract until the midfielder has fully recovered from a hamstring injury.

The 32-year-old went off injured in the 3-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League opener and is expected to be out until early 2024 following surgery. His contract expires in the summer of 2025 and any talks to keep him at the Etihad Stadium are currently on hold until his return. This means that by the time negotiations begin, the Belgium international will be in the final year of his £375,000-a-week contract.

Even so, City boss Pep Guardiola is keen for De Bruyne to remain a key part of the squad and has allowed the club hierarchy to give the midfielder another two years on his contract. Meanwhile, the club have expressed their willingness to retain the experienced player after extending Kyle Walker’s contract this week.

De Bruyne, 32, is still the best attacking midfielder in Europe, having dished out 31 assists and scored 10 goals for City last season. His presence greatly enhances Harland’s threat in front of goal and is a much favored favorite of Guardiola.
